Services / Environmental Consultancy
Aims of EMS Environmental Consulting:
- To improve the competitiveness of companies in the Yorkshire region:
- To improve environmental performance
- To encourage businesses to contribute to sustainability

The following aims will be achieved by providing a consultancy service in the following areas: -
- A help-line that is designed to answer environmental inquires. This will cover the areas of environmental legislation, waste management, energy management and environmental training. Furthermore, information covering these services will be posted on the Internet. The site will be interactive where companies can email their questions directly to us should they wish to do so.
- Regular legislation updates to keep businesses aware of developing UK and EU environmental legislation and to provide them with professional analysis of the likely effects on their business and what is required of them to achieve compliance. This will be done through the company website, publications such as newsletters and regular updates.
- "On-site” services that will give senior management the necessary tools to improve their business performance. These services include: -
- Environmental Reviews are initial environmental audits that establish a company’s significant environmental effects. An action plan is then drawn up aimed at reducing these effects, improving environmental performance and reducing company’s environmental liabilities.
- Waste Assessment and Audit investigates waste management practices and compliance with legislation in this area including the “Duty of Care” concept. It also assesses waste including, liquid, solid and gaseous, generated by the company and recommends measures to reduce, reuse and recover waste. Again an action plan will be drawn to assist the company in complying with legislation and the proper management of waste. Most importantly, the action plan will point the way as to where waste reduction can be achieved and available methods of waste recycling or re-use.
- Compliance Health Checks are audits that address compliance with environmental legislation. It will pinpoint areas of non-compliance and the action plan will address the best course of action to minimise liabilities and relevant possible prosecution.
- Waste Exchange Scheme is designed to help companies minimise and recycle/reuse of there waste (solid, liquid, unwanted items and materials) either by exchanging it with other waste they need as a raw material or by selling/giving it away to other companies to be used as a valuable resource.
Project Benefits for Business
Increasing competitiveness can be achieved by improving resource efficiency, reducing waste, efficient use of energy and increasing management and employees’ awareness of developing environmental legislation.
